Some pictures...

I guess we all kind of suck at this, but real life does get in the way. I only wish I were better at the phone, I would call you guys, but phones make me feel the pressure to have something interesting to say.

I do, however, have something interesting to post. After a few weeks to get settled in, I went with two of my roommates to look at cats at a few nearby shelters. The results:

Meet Charlotte.

And Bailey.

Okay, so, multiple cats were not in the plans, at all. But these two are sisters, both sweet and friendly. Bailey is a bit more playful and energetic and Charlotte is a little fluffier and a definite sleeper. They've already made our house feel complete. It was also not in the plans for kittens, but I will take them to the vet this week to find out their exact ages and what they need done (and when they can be fixed).

Hopefully I'll have a better photopost later, but for now, I have reading journals to catch up on. If you thought literary theory was kind of boring to read, try information behavior theory. At least the class itself is interesting!

School

Classes are good. I am taking a computer class that is incredibly boring, because it is just stuff I already know how to do. I am hoping it will be an easy A/ possibly actually teach me something at some point, since I decided not to try and test out of it. My "Human Information Behavior" class is interesting, but tons of reading. We also have to do a reading log journal, and it is going to be tough. My children's materials class seems awesome and the teacher is really funny.

My job is pretty interesting, I do random office tasks and get to sort archival materials for an archive they are creating. It isn't really normal library work but it is far more interesting than sitting at the circulation desk all day (which is what the undergrad assistants do). Today I got to look at dirty art postcards, which was neat but made me feel awkward looking at them at work.

I know i owe pictures, and I'd really like to take pictures of the library I work in as well. So, hopefully pictures this weekend.

First day of school

Tomorrow is my first day of school. I had to pick out an outfit and everything. I always hated that it was still hot on the first day of school so you couldn't really wear your new fall clothes without being uncomfortable. The past few days have been great, weather wise, but today was back in the 80's and tomorrow will be too. Though I am happy to have left the 90's and 100's of Virginia's August behind.

I'm a bit nervous, mostly about making friends, but hopefully it won't be too bad. I've hung out with the girl I already knew and her roommate, so I have two official friends.

All of my roommates have finally moved in, and are really nice. Two of us even came up with a house drink, and we all wrote out our house rules for Kings. You know, get out the important stuff first. Right now it all feels like college part two, but I know after school tomorrow and work on Wednesday it will be a little more like real life, especially since I am looking into getting an internship on top of the work study I am already doing. A library kind of near here wants an intern for the children's department, 10 hours a week. It is the perfect job for me, if they can look past the fact that I am a first year.

I hope this all works out.

Pictures will come soon, when i actually finish organizing my amazing closet. Seriously, I will have to take pictures of the closet in levels.

Also, I miss everyone!

Arrived

So, safe and sound in New Jersey. The movers were nearly an hour late arriving at my apartment in Virginia, but they packed everything quickly and headed on their way in a huge truck.

I forgot a few random things at the apartment, but the biggest one wasn't my fault. We forgot my bike.

My mom had brought it from her house where it had been stored and chained it outside my building while we waited for the movers. Through the lateness and such, we all forgot about it until we were somewhere in MD, with no place to put it even if we went back for it. It is nearly brand new, but still just a basic bike and no where near worth the 4 hour round trip to bring it up here. So, tomorrow we are going to buy a new bike before my mom leaves.

Things that have happened so far:

My mom and I went to our first NJ gas station
I saw some crazy driving in the toll plaza getting off the turnpike
I drove in New Jersey (I didn't drive my car here, Michael did. I was really nervous about the tunnel and bridges involved.)
We ventured to the Elizabeth Ikea. Never, ever go there. It isn't worth it. It is situated behind the Newark airport, and is so ridiculously confusing to get to that even the GPS didn't help.
I purchased and assembled a crazy desk contraption that involves a small computer desk and a bookshelf unit. Basically, i constructed the kind of desk i have wanted for many years. Sadly, right now the bookshelf doesn't match, but that is easily fixable.
Reorganized the kitchen. I'm living with undergrads, so I am the adult of the group. The two guys that have been here on and off throughout the summer both mentioned that the cabinets were kind of disorganized. Well, I hope they don't mind i fixed that. I also have elaborate ideas that involve 3M hooks and hanging the pots and pans from the walls.

Things that are going to happen:
Getting boring school things together
Meeting with potential workstudy supervisor
More driving adventures with my little friend TomTom
Possible farmers market trip on Sunday
Unpacking the rest of my stuff and contemplating throwing it all away, again.

I really want to take pictures of this adorable house, but i want to wait until i am done cleaning and such. Amber, take note, I have already noticed a few flaws of living in a converted Victorian house: The upstairs apartment (6 girls, I have no idea how they all fit) have already blown their circuits since I arrived. We have to let them in/reset it for them so that they can have power again. Also, window a/c does not produce the freezing temperatures I am used to. And i have an ugly blue radiator in my room. I don't even get a pretty cover.

Well, it is my first night here alone, and I should get to bed. I hope all is going well in your parts of the country.

Moving

Please remind me to never move again. Or, before I do, to adopt a minimalist lifestyle to replace this packrat mentality. I can't even give up and throw things away like a normal person. I have to recycle all of it. After the past three days, I think I may never buy anything new ever again. But new things are much more interesting than the things we already know. I still kind of want to throw everything I have away, but, we'll see how I feel once I and everything gets to a new place. Leaving first thing in the morning. I'll update again sometime this weekend, as i get settled in. Wish me luck.

Bye for now, Virginia.

We've tunneled through to the outside world

I'm moving to NJ on Friday. I've never lived anywhere but Virginia. Adventure time?

I stole many boxes from BJs, but I haven't packed.

Oh, and my boyfriend moves to this area this Saturday. Horrible timing.
